Project Reflection
In this project we learned about The Hero’s journey and how to tell stories. For example we read Siddhartha and The Alchemist and studied their hero journeys. We learned about every stage of The Hero’s Journey and who created it, Joseph Campbell. He was living alone in the woods for years and years and all he did was read. He saw a pattern throughout all of the books and he called it The Hero’s Journey. We also learned how to tell our own stories through weeks of refinement and practicing. I was able to tell my story at the exhibition and I was really proud and happy about it.
During this project I grew as a storyteller. I used to just ramble on and on about the story I was telling and couldn’t captivate my audience. I learned how to and how much refinement and effort goes into telling good stories. I also learned as a public speaker. At the exhibition and the whole night I was nervous about getting up on stage in front of a hundred people all listening to me. I got up there and I couldn’t see my audience because of the blinding lights and I started talking. It seemed like I was just talking to this black, laughing wall and it made me feel a lot better. Now that I have spoken in front of a crowd larger than I have ever before, I feel a lot better at public speaking.
I have taken lessons from this project like none before. I had learned that the only way to learn was through experience as a result to reading Siddhartha and that everything happens for a reason from The Alchemist. I also had learned what made a good story and I will use that skill for the rest of my life. Without this project, I don’t know if I would have learned these lessons and skills and then some. It was a project that had a lot of meaning and influence in my life with the way that I address problems and appreciate the good things in life.
